NEXXUS IBERIA SELLS WM CLINICS TO PENINSULA CAPITAL.
Nexxus Iberia, one of the leading Spanish mid-market private equity fund managers in Spain, alongside co-investor Capza Group (“Capza”) has completed the sale of Wm Clinics Group (“Wm Clinics”), the European leading franchise business operating in the health and wellness sector, to Peninsula Capital, a UK-based private equity manager specialized in investing in Southern Europe.
Founded in 2002, Wm Clinics is a leading franchise business operating in the health and wellness space in Spain. With a network of more than 150 franchised clinics, the company operates Dorsia (aesthetic surgery and medicine treatments), Eva (assisted reproduction and fertility services), Origen (mental health therapies) and The Test (men’s sexual health) brands. In 2018, Nexxus Iberia took a minority stake in Wm Clinics to support the company in its growth plan.
With the active support of Nexxus Iberia and under the management of Manuel Fernández and Jorge Fernández, Wm Clinics has grown considerably more than doubling its network of clinics from 74 to more than 150. In less than 4 years since Nexxus Iberia’s investment, Wm Clinics has expanded internationally to Portugal, has reinforced management team and processes, has developed and launched new concepts to expand its service portfolio (“Piensa Local” and “The Test”) and has carried out a successful vertical integration strategy with the acquisition of Tu Derma, IMF laboratory and Policlínico de Barcelona hospital. During these years Wm Clinics has had a positive impact on our society in terms of job creation (workforce increased from 46 to 171 employees), gender equality (6 out of 8 executive members are woman) and health and wellbeing (75,000 treatments per year), among others.
Arcano, KPMG, King & Wood Mallesons and PwC acted as advisors of Nexxus Iberia.
Manuel Ferndández, CEO of Wm Clinics Group, commented: “When Nexxus Iberia became a partner in our company 4 years ago, our criteria were based on two fundamental issues: the connection with the team and Nexxus’ ability to help us achieve our growth and consolidation objectives. Not only did they prove to be the best partner for those goals, but they showed a tremendous adaptability to seize market opportunities with great agility, a willingness that has helped the company achieve great results. They have been fantastic partners on this journey.”
Maite Ballester, Managing Partner of Nexxus Iberia further commented: “Nexxus Iberia’s investment in Wm Clinics is a good example of how Nexxus Iberia is able to support the growth plans of Spanish companies in a flexible way. The Wm Clinics team, led by Manuel and Jorge Fernández, has demonstrated excellent management of a fastgrowing project, being able to double the number of clinics in the network and launch new concepts in the sector such as Piensa Local or The Test. We are proud to have been able to be part of this project which has not only generated value for its shareholders, but which has had and continues to have a great impact on our society.
